Yard Waste
2026 Fall Yard Waste Collection
Public Works crews will be collecting leaves and yard waste curbside from November 1 until November 27, 2026.
Please follow the guidelines below to help our Public Works team work efficiently and smoothly. We thank you in advance for your cooperation!
- Leaves must be in large, paper biodegradable leaf bags.
- Place leaf bags curbside and leave them there until collected (*starting Nov. 1, not before).
- Public Works crews use various equipment to collect leaf bags, please group the bags together without obstructing the sidewalk, mailboxes, or driveways.
- Clear Plastic or paper leaf bags containing mulched leaves, sticks, rocks or old potting soil will NOT be collected.
Please note: Collection may not coincide with the day of your trash and recycling collection. Crews do not service your location on a set day of the week. Unpredictable leaf amounts at the curb, staffing issues and weather conditions make it difficult for us to predict the exact timeframe of your collection.
Yard Waste drop off Year Round at Riverside Recycling
2026 - Riverside Recycling will not accept SOIL/DIRT from any resident or business due to the Department of Environmental Protections rules on contaminated soil. Please see Riverside's Soil Acceptance Policy here. This includes container gardening soil, backyard dirt, etc. The DEP is working on a solution, thank you for planning ahead and holding container soil /dirt until spring.
Outside of the spring and fall curbside collection periods, residents can drop leaves and yard waste year-round at the City's transfer station, Riverside Recycling Facility.
Yard waste includes green and brown waste such as grass clippings, garden waste, and leaves.
Paper biodegradable leaf bags are required so the leaves and bags can be composted after collection.
Please be prepared to show your Riverside Recycling Facility E-Card to the gate attendant.
E-Card holders may dispose of yard waste and brush at no charge as part of the 10-Item annual allowance included with the City's trash and recycling services.
If you do not have an E-Card (e.g., tenant or business), you will be required to pay Riverside's minimum fee.
